Many dances are held in regular locations at regular times each month. Here's a summary of when and where you can join these dances.
Cuyahoga Falls (at the Quirk Cultural Center): our year-round weekday dance features the caller Carol Kopp and the band Hu$hmoney. In June, the dance on the second Thursday is the annual bridge dance, held at the Everett Road covered bridge; otherwise, the dance is held at the Quirk Cultural Center, located at 1201 Grant Ave in Cuyahoga Falls. There is a lesson at 7pm, and the dance starts at 8pm. Admission is $8, or $6 for students.
Cleveland Heights (at St. Ann's Church): both dances are held at the same place and time, although they have different bands and callers. The second Saturday dance has a varied schedule of both callers and bands. The third Saturday dance has a varied schedule of callers, with music provided by Rhubarb Pie. St. Ann's Church (of Communion of Saints Parish) is located at 2175 Coventry Rd in Cleveland Heights. The second Saturday dance has a lesson starting at 7:30pm, and the third Saturday dance has a lesson starting at 7pm. For both evenings dancing starts at 8pm. Admission is $10, or $5 for students. Refreshment contributions are always welcome.
The Rhubarb Pie Band features a good mix of contradance tunes ranging from French-Canadian to Old-time Appalachian music: Bob Glenn is on fiddle & feet percussion, Jan Pavlinak plays piano, Dale Shirer is on guitar & whistle, and Margie O'Conner is on bodhran.
Chagrin Falls (at the Chagrin Falls Township Hall): this is a easy to learn dance that's great exercise. Come to downtown Chagrin Falls and enjoy a family friendly contra dance in a relaxed social atmosphere. All ages and levels are welcome and well-represented. Wholesome live music is provided by Paul on fiddle, mandolin, and banjo; Bill on guitar; Caroline on piano; and Will on percussion. The regular caller is Paul Balliet. Please help get the word out. The Chagrin Falls Township Hall is located at 83 N. Main St. There is a free lesson at 7:30pm, and dancing goes from 8 to 10:30pm. Admission is $10, $8 for people 17 & under, or $25 for families. Kent (at Trinity Lutheran Church): Carol Kopp usually calls for this dance, which features music by Band Behind the Curtain, known for their foot-tappin' Old-Time Style of music. The band members include: Dave Rice on harmonica and fiddle; Susan Goehring on guitar, and Lynn Frederick, who plays banjo and fiddle. New dancers should plan on arriving at 7pm to learn a few steps before taking the floor! Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 600 S Water St (Rt 43) in Kent. Dancing starts at 8pm and goes till 11pm. Admission is $8, or $6 for students.
